Fabric & construction details

We use a heavyweight cotton-poly twill blend that balances breathability with durability. The fabric weight sits at 9 oz per square yard, heavy enough to resist tears and abrasion while remaining comfortable during active wear. Reinforced triple-stitch seams at stress points prevent blowouts, and bartack stitching at pocket corners adds extra strength.
The knee panels use double-layer construction with topstitch detailing. This design protects the high-wear zone without adding bulk or restricting movement. All hardware features corrosion-resistant finishes, so zippers and buttons hold up through repeated washing and outdoor exposure.
Pocket layout & storage capacity

Front & side cargo pockets
Each leg features a large side cargo pocket measuring 7 inches deep by 6 inches wide. Flap closures with snap buttons keep contents secure during movement. Traditional front slash pockets sit at a comfortable angle for quick access to keys or your phone.
Back & utility pockets
Two back patch pockets include button closures for wallet security. A small utility pocket on the right thigh holds pens, markers, or small tools. The total pocket count reaches eight, giving you dedicated storage for everything you carry daily without creating excessive bulk.
Sizing & fit guide

RSQ utility pants run true to size with a relaxed fit through the hips and thighs. The leg opening tapers slightly for a modern silhouette that works with boots or sneakers. Waist sizes range from 28 to 40 inches, with inseam options at 30, 32, and 34 inches.
The adjustable side tabs let you fine-tune the waist fit by up to two inches without a belt. We recommend ordering your standard pant size for the intended relaxed fit. If you prefer a slimmer look, similar cuts appear throughout our workwear pant collection, including styles with tapered legs and stretch fabric.

What people are saying

Common questions about RSQ utility pants
The standard RSQ utility pants use a non-stretch cotton-poly twill blend for maximum durability. The fabric provides natural give through movement but doesn’t contain elastane or spandex. The relaxed fit through the seat and thighs allows full range of motion without requiring stretch fabric.
If you prefer added flexibility, we offer a stretch version of these utility pants with 2% elastane blended into the twill weave.
These pants feature eight total pockets: two front slash pockets, two large side cargo pockets with flap closures, two back patch pockets with button closures, one small utility pocket on the right thigh, and one coin pocket inside the right front pocket. The cargo pockets measure 7 inches deep by 6 inches wide, large enough to hold most smartphones, wallets, or small tools securely.
That depends on your workplace dress code. These utility pants work well in trades, construction, warehousing, landscaping, and other hands-on professions where durability and pocket storage are priorities. The workwear styling and cargo pockets make them less appropriate for business-casual office environments.
For cleaner-lined professional settings, our chino and carpenter pant styles offer similar durability with more streamlined pocket configurations.
Minimal shrinkage may occur during the first wash, typically less than 1-2% in length and width when following care instructions. We pre-wash the fabric during manufacturing to reduce shrinkage, but natural fibers always contract slightly with heat exposure.
To minimize shrinkage, wash in cold water and tumble dry on low heat or hang dry. Avoid high-heat drying, which accelerates fabric contraction and can affect the fit over time.
The terms are often used interchangeably, but utility pants typically feature more specialized pocket configurations and reinforced construction zones. Our RSQ utility pants include knee reinforcement, adjustable waist tabs, and a utility pocket designed for pens or tools – features not always found on standard cargo pants.
Cargo pants generally focus on the large side pockets as the main design element, while utility pants emphasize overall functionality and durability for demanding work or outdoor activities.
The cotton-poly blend offers reasonable breathability for moderate temperatures, but the 9 oz twill fabric is heavier than typical summer-weight pants. These work well in spring and fall weather, or during cooler summer days when you need pocket storage and durability.
For hot weather, consider our utility shorts, which use the same pocket layout and construction in a shorts silhouette designed for warm conditions.
Yes, each cargo pocket flap uses a metal snap button closure that holds securely during walking, bending, and climbing. The snaps require deliberate pressure to open, so they won’t pop open accidentally, but they’re easy enough to operate with one hand when you need quick access to pocket contents.
The snap hardware is corrosion-resistant and tested for thousands of open-close cycles without weakening.
